Gays (not) in the military

Am I just stating the obvious? If you need people to fight your war, but get rid of a substantial portion of your army, aren’t you dooming yourself to lose your fight for lack of personnel? The “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy doesn’t work if someone asks or someone tells, which apparently happens enough to let hundreds of people go, which says to me that it’s a silly policy.

The straight people who really want to be in the army are already in the army. If you want to beef up your numbers, reaching out to young people in America won’t help if you’re not including everyone. And if gay people passed all your tests to get in the army in the first place, haven’t they already proven themselves? Again, I might be stating the obvious, but I feel it needs to be said.

Matt Bors, who pens the comic Idiot Box has a “well duh!” comment. Go check out his archive, he has some really good stuff.
