Friends don’t let friends be stupid

— Posted by Leshka at 8:27 pm

This past Saturday I spent a very enjoyable day celebrating a friend’s birthday party. Adam and I got to Brooklyn around 2:00 and 16 people left for The Rink in New Jersey sometime after that. After a lot of traffic and a little bit of getting lost (but awesome driving skillz!) we realized that we wouldn’t be able to skate for a good amount of time and then eat. So we decided to eat dinner in NJ and skate later. Anyway, it was really fun because I haven’t skated in years (even though I have my own pair of skates.) I was very (very, very) sore the next couple of days, but that’s all right.

What’s not all right was that the skating rink is one of those places where adults feel they can act like little kids. There are simple rules - don’t speed skate, don’t skate backwards, etc. I mean, there were enough people who were beginner skaters that speed skating and the like gets really hazardous. But why do you feel that you need to cut across to get to the exit you want? You end up causing pileups, with the beginners not being able to get up easily and the more experienced feeling rink rage.

One guy repeatedly did this, and one of those times crashed into a girl who fell. I skated into her and fell. Someone behind me skated into me and almost fell. I fell on my locker key and came away with this bruise (picture taken Wednesday night)

Bruise

For size comparison, I held up a pack of cards next to it. I also outlined it on the picture, just cause I want the most sympathy I can get…

So the moral of the story is “You’re not the only person in the world. Don’t act like it.”
